What causes wind?

Wind is primarily caused by differences in atmospheric pressure. When there is a variation in pressure between two areas, air naturally moves from regions of higher pressure to regions of lower pressure in an attempt to equalize the pressure across the landscape. This movement of air is what we experience as wind.

While factors like the Earth's rotation, temperature changes, and modifications to air masses can influence wind patterns and characteristics, they do not directly cause wind to occur. For example, the Earth's rotation affects the direction of wind flow through the Coriolis effect, and temperature changes can lead to differences in pressure, but it is the pressure difference itself that initiates the movement of air, resulting in wind.
